Overview:

About NEYC

New England Youth Cycling is an interscholastic cycling league that enables student athletes to strengthen body, mind, and character through the sport of cycling. The league has 1,000+ youth athletes in grades 5 - 12 and over 30 teams throughout New England.

Reasons to join NEYC include:

  • Self-Confidence: As soon as they begin to learn new skills, feel improvement in their performance, and hear words of encouragement from coaches and teammates, a more confident kid may begin to emerge.
  • Lifelong Hobby: Cycling is a life-long sport. It’s not just a sport that’s done during high school.
  • Good Mentors: There’s nothing like a positive role model to help encourage and properly guide you through an endeavor.

The Wompatuck Warriors of NEYC

NEYC is New England's Youth Cycling League and is a great opportunity for kids to learn to ride or improve upon the skills they have.  Each of the 30 teams in NEYC league are regionally based - and the Wompatuck Warriors draws its members from towns that surround or are in the vicinity of the park.

Spring races run April thru June (the final race is in Wompatuck) and are open to boys & girls of ALL abilities. Entering races is encouraged but NOT mandatory. The purpose of the league is to instill a love of mountain biking as well as build confidence & healthy habits in kids.

The league is structured by grade: 5th/6th grade, 7th/8th grade, 9th/10th grade, Junior Varsity, and Varsity. Riders in grades 11th/12th must race either JV or Varsity. Finishers are awarded points for each race with male and female participants scored separately. All points count towards a team total. Awards are given to the teams with the most points at the end of the season.

To join the Wompatuck Warriors you need not have ever raced. The goal of the team is to get youth involved in mountain biking as a sport, either for recreation or for racing. Our team develops skills, confidence, respect for the trails, and fitness. The Wompatuck Warriors are committed to supporting youth as they grow and develop into tomorrow's leaders.

All of our coaches are volunteers who love cycling. Most have a history of racing and all have cleared a criminal background check. All coaches ultimately have the same expectations: hard work and dedication from each team member. As a team, we strive to make each member a better rider/racer, a fit cyclist, a better trail ambassador, and a better human being. If you're interested in the sport of Mountain Biking then come join the Wompatuck Warriors of NEYC!

DID YOU KNOW?

High school athletes can list participation in NEYC as a valid Junior Varsity or Varsity sport on their college applications.

INTERESTED IN LEARNING MORE?

Per NEYC league guidelines, the size of teams is limited to approximately 50 kids.  As such, participation in the Wompatuck Warriors tends to fill up quickly!  Parents are encouraged to contact Team Coach Vicki Schow (via the form below) early to inquire about participation. In addition, potential new team members must participate in one October group ride to meat the team & coaches in order to determine if placement on the team is a good fit.  While skill or ability is NEVER a determining factor, commitment to participation through out the spring season is. As slots are very limited, priority is given to student athletes who demonstrate that they are willing to be engaged and active participants of the team.
